A great unit from the big brand: Singer. Comes with traditional style but powered by model features that are easy to learn for new sewers. Recommended!
- The automatic needle threader is a must have feature

- Reports of thread tangling
When we think of sewing machines, the first name that pops into the mind of most people is Singer. In fact, some will buy Singer and Singer only. We would be remiss if we did not take the time to review their selection. Today, we are taking a look at the Singer 2277 Tradition Sewing Machine with Automatic Needle Threader. This entry level model drops many of the frills of their higher end models while retaining quality and features that matter.
Singer 2277 Key Features
23 Stitch Types – The model comes built in with 23 different types of stitches. This includes 6 base, 7 stretch, 9 decorative, and a buttonhole.
Sturdy Skip-Proof Frame – Oftentimes in the entry level market, machines are made with plastic bodies. This causes the occasional jump, or skip, of stitching. The 2277 is a made from a fully metal body to avoid this issue. It does add to the overall weight, however, we find it to be worth the trade-off, especially since we would not qualify it as heavy.
Pro-Grade Buttonholer – Rather than relying on a 4 step process that does not always turn out great, the buttonholer included with this model is 1 step and is fully automatic. This makes for a clean and precise stitch.
Automatic Needle Threader – To save time and stress, the unit has an automatic needle threader. Many entry-level models include a needle threader that is manual. This can be a hassle. This is a feature that we would hate to live without as it is very convenient and a big time saver.
In addition to these features, the device also has a few more tricks up its sleeves. The presser foot is adjustable. Need more pressure? You can do that. Need it to be higher up to accommodate more fabric? You can do that too. There are also 3 different feet included, depending on what you are working on; standard, buttonholes, and button sewing.
With a low price, the item is a very nice value. It stays away from many of the “shiny toy” features that companies try to use as a marketing tool, and as the name implies, sticks to the traditional motif. It is solid, pleasing to use, and an overall great buy. If SINGER stands for one thing, it’s sewing. Other than Brother, I would not dare buy a machine from any other company. If you like SINGER and are in the market for an entry level sewing machine, then we highly recommend the SINGER 2277.
