Knitting, knitting, knitting
Of course the holidays are a frantic time for knitters. With an idea of saving money, we all decide to make every member of the family a handmade gift. Starting in January we decide who will get what, and how long it will take. We then plan how much yarn we will need to purchase, how much we already have in our stash, and what yarn will go toward what project. We search patterns in books, patterns online, patterns in our LYS.
Then we start the knitting.
And we knit.
And knit.
And knit…
And yet… three days before Christmas, we still have projects to finish.
WHY?
With all the planning and good will, why do we knitters continue to put ourselves through the “pre-holiday-panic-attack” followed by the ‘pre-holiday-through-holiday-through-post-holiday-knit-a-thon’ which is then followed by the “IOU-one-sweater-or-other-large-knitted-item-to-make-up-for-my-thoughtlessness-guilt-fest.”
I say from now on, we all follow the advice of a wise and also famous knitter whose name I can’t remember at this moment due to the “I’ve-knitted-so-much-I’ve-lost-all-brain-function-phenomenon” who said that at the beginning of the year decide one person to knit for, and knit your heart out. Or else knit lots of small things all year, and dole them out at Christmas time.
Or, be like me and only knit for those who actually appreciate it, an buy everone else’s gifts December 26th when everything’s on sale.
