Trusting that you will all remember how and why we have a free land - free enough to vocalize our content or our discontent - free enough to vote (or not) and to support (or not) those elected - free enough to love (or hate) our neighbors - free enough to worship in the manner we so choose - free enough to write these words and/or read them - free.
We won’t really appreciate our freedoms until the day we lose them.
That is part of life in the United States - that is part of LIFE - period.
I am thankful tonight. I can sit here in the darkening night (it’s still Tuesday in Alaska) and listen to the neighbor coughing his smoker’s cough while his wife’s little dog barks for his attention. I can sit here in a peaceful quiet - although it is a bit lonely quiet as hubby has been called in to work for the next 5 days.
I can choose to turn off the alarm and sleep in - which I heartily plan to do.
“It’s a free country” as the saying goes - generally lobbed at someone in a sarcastic manner.
But tonight, friends, I thank God (not a higher power - not allah - not vashtuwhatever) - I thank the Lord Jesus Christ, my Sovereign King and Savior - that I have the freedom fought for so many years ago - and being fought for even today.
You have the freedom to do the same or otherwise.
May God bless you on this fourth day of July in the year of our Lord 2007.
