Coming around full circle

by Keri the Sheep

I originally started being serious with knitting when I read Debbie Stoller’s Stitch ‘N Bitch. The way she writes and teaches knitting through real-life experience and easy to understand illustrations, makes you feel like you’re hanging out with your buddy, laughing and learning a new hobby. She’s witty, and sometimes downright hilarious. (I have actually laughed out loud while reading this book, and subsequently received strange looks from members of my immediate family.)

I loaned the book to my sister, Elise, who had mentioned she wanted to learn to knit. Since we were still not extremely close, I didn’t think she’d want to learn from me, and so I let her borrow the book. Well, that was over a year ago, and she just returned it to me.

I feel like I’ve found an old friend again! I love this book more than I can say, and have also bought every other item written by Debbie Stoller. I’m not obsessed - just a fan that wants to support her hero. That’s all.

(By the way I have now received *2* personal emails from Debbie Stoller. How freakin’ cool is that?)

Upon flipping through the section with the color pics of the patterns, I realized that since owning this book I have increased in skill and confidence to tackle ANY pattern in the book. How liberating!

So now I am going to make every pattern in the book.

Since I’m a much faster knitter now, and I knit Continental style, I figure I’ll get through the whole book in a year, if I do them one at a time. AND I’ll be able to use up much of my stash, if I substitute yarn for most of the patterns, which is one of my knitting resolutions. (PS: I have up until now only made the simplest of patterns in the book, those being the first 3 “training” patterns listed. This is because when I went to do a different one, I screwed it up somehow. and ended up making a baby hat. Yeah.)

SO…

For the first pattern, I’m making the

Coney Island Fireworks Scarf.

Although I’m subbing in some Bernat eyelash yarn for the one they used, and a real cheap acrylic for the cotton. It should look similar, and yet completely different. PTC

About Knitting Passion

Is knitting really a passion? On THIS blog it is - for all who come here. Blog entries will be made up of patterns, photos of in-progress or completed work - off the wall discussions about whatever tickles the author's fancy (Survivor Knitting anyone?). This can be as much YOUR blog as it is the current author's. Questions will be entertained and answers sought diligently. Comments are always welcome - and information ALWAYS appreciated. Will there be stories and pictures of the stash of yarn or the duplicated knitting needles? Will there be more off the wall ideas for knitting? Will there be original patterns or freebies cited? Only the dark of night and the author's amount of caffeine or sleep can determine that.

Ready? ONE - TWO - GET SET - KNIT!
