Christmas gifts (in case you wanted to know)

by Keri the Sheep

I didn’t post this before because of all the drama I was dealing with regarding all the sick people in my house. But now, here for your enertainment, is the list of knitting related gifts I received on Christmas.

Let me preface this by noting that the original plan regarding gifts to and from my mom, my sister, and my husband was that we would all buy our own gifts, wrap them, mark them as being “from” someone else (as mentioned above), and let that person open them Christmas morning. This was supposed to create some insight as to what we really wanted, as well as us actually getting what we really wanted, all without spending too much and having to worry about not having spent enough.

So… Yeah. Turns out I was the only one that actually did it. It wasn’t even my idea! So it was pretty depressing opening my own gifts that I got for myself. Not that I’m an overly materialistic person, or anything, but the thing that I missed was the thought process involved.

For example, I have several people in my husband’s family to buy for. (He is #3 out of 7 kids, and one sibling is married w/ 2 kids, too.) Now, even though I probably spent about $5 EACH on their gifts, I still tried very, very hard to make their gifts personal, and thoughtful. (And I spent a long time on a couple that were particularly hard to shop for… Matt!!!) And as far as I could tell, they were pleased! (I can spot a fake smile a mile away, people. A fake “oh, thanks…” is even easier.

So yeah, that’s what I wanted. Just someone to think “Hmmm, what do I know about Keri that would tell me what would make her smile?” I’m just saying that it would have been nice to have that same caring come from my own blood-relations, that’s all.

Was that drawn out and detailed enough for you? Sheesh…

PS: As you will see, it was my husband’s family that totally saved this side of Christmas for me. Have I mentioned how great my mom-in law is? (I’m not just saying that because I know she reads this, either.)

Well, here’s the list.

1) In my stocking I had 2 small balls of yarn from Kyle (which he actually had me buy for him, and then made me promise I would “forget” about them. Hahaha! Man, I love that kid!)

2)”From Mom” I received a set of the Knifty Knitter round looms.

3)”From Elise” (my sister) I received the book “Funky Knits” (I just did that link by hand and got it right the first time - I rock.)

4)From my mom-in-law and family I received (this is so awesome) a Pocket Knitter, and a set of size 9 Knit-Lite knitting needles. Do you realize how thoughtful these 2 items are? If you know anything about me by now, then of course you realize how thoughtful they are! (I didn’t even have size 9 needles! And she said she didn’t know what size to get…)

So, that’s all the knitting gifts I got. I have to say, out of all the gifts, though, the Knit-Lite needles were, and still are, my favorite. Just the thought involved made them more special.

Oh one last thing - I was going to post pics, but if you hadn’t noticed already, this post is about 3 times as long as I normally go, and I’m a bit pooped. PTC. I’m sure you understand. ;)

About Knitting Passion

Is knitting really a passion? On THIS blog it is - for all who come here. Blog entries will be made up of patterns, photos of in-progress or completed work - off the wall discussions about whatever tickles the author's fancy (Survivor Knitting anyone?). This can be as much YOUR blog as it is the current author's. Questions will be entertained and answers sought diligently. Comments are always welcome - and information ALWAYS appreciated. Will there be stories and pictures of the stash of yarn or the duplicated knitting needles? Will there be more off the wall ideas for knitting? Will there be original patterns or freebies cited? Only the dark of night and the author's amount of caffeine or sleep can determine that.

Ready? ONE - TWO - GET SET - KNIT!
