In the past, we have taken a look other sewing machines by Brother: the LS2125i, the XL2600I, and the XM2701. While they are great sewing machines for beginners, we wanted to review a bigger brother from the Brother family: the CS6000i. It is in the territory of mid-range, rather than entry level. Although not much more expensive, it is quite more advanced. This includes a large set of features with more adjustability.
Brother CS6000i Key Features
Onboard LCD Display – One of the biggest advantages that sets this model apart from Brother’s entry level models is an enticing LCD display. Rather than the traditional knob on inexpensive models to adjust stitch pattern choice, this one uses the LCD and associated buttons. Not only can you choose the pattern using this LCD screen, you can also adjust the length and width of the stitch. This is a fantastic feature that you just cannot find on entry level models.
60 Built-In Stitches – Tired of using the same common stitches that you see everywhere? Problem solved! The device contains 60 different pre-programmed stitches. This, combined with the ability to adjust the stitch length and width, opens up many options that are simply not available on lesser models.
Pedal-Free Operation – While some people prefer to use a pedal, many do not. This product has an on/off button built into it, along with variable speed options for continuous use without a pedal.
7 Types of 1 Step Buttonholes – Another nice addition to this item is a variety of buttonhole styles. 7 different one are included, each auto sizing to near perfection.
In addition to all of these above average features, it also includes an easy to set drop in bobbin that resists jams, a quilting table, and a hard cover to protect it from damage while being stored.
While the array of options might be a bit off-putting to a novice sewer, I would argue that they would quickly get used to operating it with ease. Even if they do not take advantage of some of the features, like the array of button styles or the stitch size adjusting, with time they will be thanking their past selves for getting a mid-range, rather than entry level, sewing machine.
This is a feature-rich sewing machine. It does come with a few drawbacks like the pedal issues stated above, but with finesse and care, these issues can be avoided. The LCD is a delightful surprise that we were not expecting in this price range. At about $150, you would be hard pressed to find a quality and feature filled machine like the CS6000i, even without the LCD screen.
Because of these reasons, we suggest and recommend this machine for first-timers as well as those who know their way around the thread.
