Podcasting again?

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Well I figured it out. 451Press is letting me host my podcast here, so here it is. Of course most of you have heard it already, but here it is again. (After 2 hours of late night tinkering…) Hopefully now I’ll be able to keep up with it.

Knitting Where No One Has Knit Before

Famous Knitters - Dakota Fanning

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

5165230.jpgNeed motivation for your pre-teens to learn how to knit? Just tell them Dakota Fanning does it!

I came across an interview with Dakota Fanning where she talks about knitting on the set. This is the bit about knitting:

Were you invited to the wedding? [Of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes]
I wasn’t but I sent a present. I’ve knitted Tom a scarf before.

Are you a good knitter?
I’m good but I’m so bad about actually knitting them. If I’m on a movie, I will knit for everyone on set but then I barely do it at home, so I have to get better at knitting things for my family. The only one in my family who has a scarf is my grandmother, so I have to make sure I make one for my mum, dad and sister.

Don’t they give you a hard time about the fact that Tom has one and they don’t?
Yes. My sister gets really mad at me. I started knitting her one and made the mistake of telling her, so now she just hangs over me all the time saying: ‘You’re not knitting my scarf!’ So when I’m just sitting there being lazy, she’ll bring it over and say: ‘Start!’

So you won’t be having your own scarf line any time soon?
Well, I could if I got in the zone. I knitted one in a day before.

Knitted Breasts

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

Yes that’s right, I said it! Believe me if this weren’t important and for a good cause I would never have mentioned it.

But seeing as how an estimated 178,480 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in American women in 2007 alone, and many of those will have one or both breasts removed, (and as I am not a fan of implants personally), here is the latest in how knitting is contributing to the well being of breast cancer survivors. The designer is a cancer survivor, and has her own site here.

But that’s not all!

Knitted breast prostheses are also being made to help new moms learn to express their milk! This is especially beneficial for mothers of premature babies to express milk to help build their babies’ strength. So for your next preemie project, make a hat and a breast for twice as much benefit!

I didn’t think it was possible to love knitting even more… but now I do!

Swap update

Friday, February 9th, 2007

So I’ve already purchased 2 items for my swap partner. I’m so excited! I can’t wait to put pics up of them, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise! Argh! Frustration!!

The March colorswap is green themed, but I’m not sure if I’m going to do it yet…

Ooh! I could do something with Stitching for Lyme! Ooooooh the possibilities……

Knit In - New Knitters Out

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

My first Knit In has been a success!

(Of course I have no pictures because I suck… :P )

I have so much to say, but I have some weird kind of block going on, so I’ll just do my best.

OK…

So I had 4 people show up, which is actually more than I was expecting, to be perfectly honest. I’m not sure how they feel about their names being on here, so I’ll just give them new names! I’m a writer, after all! So first came Maggie with her 2 daughters, then Aleena with her daughter and son. Then Maggie had to leave, and as she was leaving Rheanna showed up with her sister Samantha. All 4 ladies learned how to knit, although I’m not sure Samantha continued after she left. She seemed to be having a hard time of it. She is primarily a crocheter, and kept wanting to crochet somehow with her needles.

So I thought I did a pretty good job after everyone left, although I think I got more out of it than anyone else. (It was so dang awesome to talk to grown-ups, I can’t even tell you!) But the best part was when today we had a play-date at Maggie’s house, everyone was knitting! Hee hee! Joy of joys!

Although only one square has been finished so far… not including the original 10 I got from Sis. Barnum. But I taught them gauge today, so I’ll probably be getting more squares this week. Woohoo!

Someone doesn’t want me to write about socks!

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Well, it seems as though Providence has taken issue with my “Sock Issues.” Sock Issues is the title of a draft of mine, in which I describe all the different problems I’m having with knitting socks, as of late. And it seems like there are many… but every time I go to write something, my camera batteries die, and I can’t upload my latest pictures. Or my internet goes down, so I can’t access my blog. Or even worse, my kids get strep throat and I can’t get at the computer at all! (Marie has it now. Kyle is pretty much over it.)

I have been stealing seconds between doses of antibiotics and refills on the humidifier to try to write *something* so that I can maintain my 1 blog a day quota, but even still, I have fallen behind. We’ll just say I decided to take the weekend off, winkwink.

That said, I have lots of pictures of my WIPs to show you. As soon as my camera batteries are done charging, that is.

Good News for Lyme Sufferers

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

I just got this note in the mail from Lisa:

“I’m just writing to share that we have taken one more baby step toward affecting change in the battle against the IDSA’s flawed guidelines on Lyme disease diagnosis and treatment. My analysis was recently forwarded my by state governor’s office to a state analyst; I’m pleased to report that the analyst saw enough credence in my argument to forward it to the state health department, to a doctor and lawyer who has the power to affect change in state policy. While nothing might come of this, I and others like myself have come one step closer toward getting the treatment we so desperately need, without having to fight an uphill battle in the process. For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to look at my work, you can view it at: http://www.lymeanalysis.zoomshare.com”

Awesome!

Being Listed

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Look I’m one of 5 Knitting Blogs listed!

AND she references Stitching for Lyme! Heeheehee!!!

Now I just have to live up to the honor… I hope I don’t crack under the pressure…

A little light during a dreary week.

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Well, it seems like ever since I lost that size 9 Knit Lite needle that everything has been nothing but bad luck. Well, today I received a gift of a pair of size 9 straight needles, AND a size 9 circular needle. I hope this will be the end of the bad luck spell. If nothing else, I’m very excited to be able to finish my scarf. This is how it’s been ever since I lost the needle.

So hopefully I’ll be able to have at least one project done this week.

About Knitting Passion

Is knitting really a passion? On THIS blog it is - for all who come here. Blog entries will be made up of patterns, photos of in-progress or completed work - off the wall discussions about whatever tickles the author's fancy (Survivor Knitting anyone?). This can be as much YOUR blog as it is the current author's. Questions will be entertained and answers sought diligently. Comments are always welcome - and information ALWAYS appreciated. Will there be stories and pictures of the stash of yarn or the duplicated knitting needles? Will there be more off the wall ideas for knitting? Will there be original patterns or freebies cited? Only the dark of night and the author's amount of caffeine or sleep can determine that.

Ready? ONE - TWO - GET SET - KNIT!
