Tenuous Hopes

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

OK. The Cox guy came again. Except there were 3 of them today and the one guy looked like he actually knew what he was talking about.

So now we have internet. Hopefully for longer than 48 hours.

My head is totally killing me, so until I get some asprin I won’t be writing. So, bye.

Podcasting cont.

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

I am in the process of writing show notes for my first podcast ever. Although I am actually typing them, and this blog entry, on a plain test editor on my computer. Why? Well that’s easy. Because Cox sucks and they haven’t fixed my internet yet. Don’t they realize that not only do I have a blog to keep up with, but I am also supposed to be doing so freelance writing online that I can’t do unless I’m connected to the internet? Not only that , but I can’t check my email either, so everyone that’s sent me email (or replied to my forum entries)thinks I’m a total flake, when in actuality I just have no way to respond to them! Frustrating!

Someone got a brain I can borrow?

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

So I am completely retarded…

I have a camera on this computer! DUH!

I’m still going to add the other pics I have, but I’m also going to start uploading pics from the PC cam. Go me and my slow brain!

Podcasting

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

I’ve decided to totally do a podcast, whether it’s affiliated with 451Press or not. I just have to get the hang of this software. But I really liked doing it. Even though I couldn’t actually submit it for the contest or anything. (This is the first time I’ve had internet all day, by the way. I really hate Cox right now. They’re sending yet ANOTHER technician out.)

Fun, fun, fun!

Lyme Mittens

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

I’m making mittens for my next Stitching for Lyme project. Scarves take too long, and take too much yarn. So I thought I’d spread out all the green yarn I got from Mary by using it along with the other yarn I got from Ranae. That way I can knit for as long as possible without having to pay and get reimbursed, or having to worry about tax write-offs.

photo-9.jpg

So the basic idea for these mittens comes fron Knitty Gritty with Vicky Howell. Although I’m using different yarn, needles, and stitch pattern for the cuffs… But yeah, the thumb will probably be the same. Oh, and Tick will be on there too, and Vicky’s didn’t have that…

As it so happens, the socks I’m making use the same method for making the heels.

I’ll be posting the entire pattern as soon as I finish the first one.

Knitting Links - but not webring links…

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

Yeah so I just got an email from the support person at 451.com that says they don’t allow webrings in the sidebars. So I need some other links. I already requested knittinghaven, but I don’t know what’s going on with that. I don’t think the support lady likes me very much, actually. Call it a vibe, or call it insecure… anyway. Still looking for links.

I have joined a Web Ring

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

I’m hopefully going to get this on my sidebar soon.

Trading Links

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

If anyone has a website about knitting, spinning, Lyme Disease, or anything else I talk about, send me your address, and I’ll post a link to your site. Then if you post a link to mine, we’ll be helping each other out.

Thanks!

PTC = Pictures to Come

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Just in case you haven’t scrolled that far, I wanted to say that I haven’t found the box that has my camera’s USB cord yet. So I can’t get any pics up. I will, however, post lots of pics as soon as I find it. I will not only go back and insert pictures where they need to be, but also will make a post of only those pictures, to save you some time and grief while searching for them.

I know, I’m so thoughtful.

Sheep.

Monday, December 11th, 2006

I have started collecting sheep. I’ve realized that sheep have a deep meaning for me.

1. I knit yarn that comes from sheep.
2. I first started blogging because everyone else was doing it. I was being a sheep.
3. My nickname in the blogosphere is “Keri the Sheep.”
4. My husband considers himself the Black Sheep of the family, and there are reasons for this that are also reasons that I fell in love with him.
5. Sheep are so freakin’ dang cute!
6. My daughter drinks from the bottle while sitting up and looks just like a baby lamb when she does it. (PTC)
7. In my religion, sheep are widely used in metaphor, and when I first realized this is where I wanted to be, it was based on the story of the lost sheep and the sheppard that went to look for him.

OK, that’s it. Just wanted to mention that. I love sheep. :D

Teaching the Beehives

Monday, December 11th, 2006

So last week I finally got to teach my knitting class to the Beehives. For those of you that don’t know, the Beehives are the girls aged 12-13 in the LDS (or Mormon) Church. For more info go here.

It was so much fun! There were 10-12 girls there, plus their leader, Leslie, who also wanted to learn. I taught them how to make a slip knot, the provisional cast-on, and the knit stitch. Probably half got it right away. There were 2 girls that really amazed me. I won’t mention their names, but I will say that they are twins, and both are really neat.

The one girl taught herself to knit backwards, and actually had a 2 inch swatch in stockinette going. I was so dang impressed! I told her at the time to switch hands and keep going, in order to make garter stitch, right? Well she mis-understood and just knittted back the other way, instead! Her sister, meanwhile, did switch hands, and ended up with a 3 inch long by 3 inch wide swatch of almost perfect garter stitch. It was so awesome!

But the best thing of all was at Church that Sunday when several girls told me how much fun knitting was, and that they couldn’t stop doing it! My heart swelled, I tell you! I hope to teach them again, sometime soon, and maybe we’ll all make scarves together. Or maybe wristbands. Or scruchies! Oooh fun!

WIPs for this week - PTC (Pics to come.)

Monday, December 11th, 2006

I haven’t had a lot of time to knit these past 2 weeks. I have been moving, of course, but I’ve also been tending a bunch of sick people!

  • Kyle had the flu, pink eye, and an abscess on his gum, in that order. He has to have it pulled on Thursday. I think I’ll get him a toy tomorrow just for dealing with all the crap.
  • Marie has a sinus infection, pink eye, and is teething really badly. Toys won’t make her happy yet.
  • Josh had a wicked cold, but got medication for it.
  • I have a sinus infection, pink eye, lack of sleep, horrible sinus headaches that even percosets won’t get rid of, and this terrible withdrawl that makes me crave yarn…
  • Other than that?

    Yeah…

SO last night I started a pair of socks for my fabulous friend Claire. I forgot how much I like knitting socks. More on that later.

I finally finished the first Tick scarf and made $20 for the Lyme Disease Association. Which I gave to Lisa because although my heart is in the right place, I am not that great with money, and may have accidentally spent it on gas, otherwise. (I actually shredded all my debit and credit cards for just this reason.)

I finished one sleeve on Lisa’s sweater and sewed it on. While the sleeve itself was way to short for Lisa’s taste, it matched the sweater. We figure it’s going to be size 7/8 in young girls. (Note: We tried it on Kyle, and it was a perfect fit. Pics DEFINATELY to come on this one. Hahaha!) I’m adding a red TICK on the other sleeve, just because I can, and we might sell it for the cause.

Lisa is starting a crocheted scarf using some of the donated green yarn, and will give me pics, as well.

Other than that, not much else, for reasons listed above.

PS: My in-laws are awesome! Next entry will explain.

    I have a backyard!

    Monday, December 11th, 2006

So now we are living in a house. We have a 2 car garage, and are set on 1/5 of an acre. What does this mean? We have a backyard!!!

    And it’s huge.

(This is the part where I went out to take pictures and realized that I haven’t unpacked the USB cord to my camera yet. Pics to come.:))

I love this house. It’s amazing.

I have a lot more to say, but have to catch up on my quota, so you’ll have to read more later.

    Hi Dad.

    Monday, December 11th, 2006

Upon request from my dad and some other people, I have made a catagory for all the entries that include pictures.

These include pics of anything, from yarn to my family, just so you’re aware.

So it won’t include this one, even though that’s all this is about.

    Yippee! I have internet!

    Monday, December 11th, 2006

Do you know how reliant I have become on internet access?

Long, long ago, before multiple computers in every home, and high speed cable modems, people did without the internet.

  • They balanced their checkbooks by hand using paper statements.
  • They got driving directions from detailed maps that included all the streets in a city.
  • They played games with their neighbors using real live boards and real decks of cards.
  • They used phone books.
  • They sent paper letters and included pictures that were printed on special paper that could only be gotten from a photo developer when you turned in your spent roll of 35mm film.
  • I don’t know how I’ve gotten along for the past two weeks!

    About Knitting Passion

Is knitting really a passion? On THIS blog it is - for all who come here. Blog entries will be made up of patterns, photos of in-progress or completed work - off the wall discussions about whatever tickles the author's fancy (Survivor Knitting anyone?). This can be as much YOUR blog as it is the current author's. Questions will be entertained and answers sought diligently. Comments are always welcome - and information ALWAYS appreciated. Will there be stories and pictures of the stash of yarn or the duplicated knitting needles? Will there be more off the wall ideas for knitting? Will there be original patterns or freebies cited? Only the dark of night and the author's amount of caffeine or sleep can determine that.

Ready? ONE - TWO - GET SET - KNIT!
