Sweater Mania: Part Ni

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

Ni is Japanese for 2 in case you didn’t know.

I have started my first “real” sweater. It’s going to be for my friend Lisa for Christmas. She’s probably the most understanding female person I know when it comes to knitting, depression, animals, and writing. She’s also very intelligent, so I know I can talk to her about anything, and I don’t have to dumb anything down.

So the sweater is knit from the bottom up, in four main pieces, just like Kyle’s doll sweater. I’m using a pattern I got here except I changed the yarn. It calls for Lion Brand Thick and Quick Chenille, but Wal-Mart didn’t have any colors I liked, so instead I’m using Lion Brand Homespun in “Colonial” which is a beautiful blue blend. It’s on size 11 needles, so it’s going quite fast, so far. I’m thinking it will take as long as the other sweater, based on the proportion of size, but we’ll see. At any rate, I’m loving the yarn, and if it turns out nice, I’ll probably make one for myself.

That’s all. No pics today. Josh is waiting to play World of Warcraft.

Upon completion of my first sweater

I’ve discovered that I really like making sweaters! I can’t wait to make another one. Although, the fact that this sweater was made for this guy

might have something to do with it.

Feeling a bit inadequate?

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Well I went to Pahrump today to get away from it all… turns out that Marie (my 6-month old daughter) won’t go to anyone but me. So rather than having a lovely visit with my Gramma Rae while spending the day knitting, I instead carried Marie around Gramma’s house while constantly telling her “it’s not you, she does that with everyone…”

Well, at least I got to knit 3 rows on the latest panel I’m working on. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Although this too, was less than satisfying as it is a constant reminder of my *novicity* when it comes to cables. (I know that’s not a real word, but do I care? Nope. You knew exactly what I meant didn’t you? Ok then.) But how cool is that cable needle, huh? I made it. Yep that’s right. Bent it myself.

Check out this beginning of a cable pattern! Notice the lovely twisted stitches on the left…

Not only am I inadequate with cables, I also suck at lots of stuff *not* knitting related, such as packing, cleaning, networking, and being married. I *am* however great at parenting. So neener, neener, neener.

Hello world!

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Hello indeed! If someone would have told me a year ago that I would be paid for writing a weblog about knitting, I would have laughed in their face. And yet, here I am, writing about my favorite thing in the world (as unfortunately cliche as that sounds). Woohoo, I say! Woohoo!!

As the title suggests, I am passionate knitting. So passionate, in fact, that in my over-exuberance I accidentally hit the back button and erased my first entry! Woo… aw crap…

Also to be noted, I make extensive use of parentheticals and end many sentences with “…” in my effort to convey the actual way I speak. English majors, beware!

But in essence this blog will be me gushing about yarn, needles, and patterns, as well as showing off my finished projects, and ranting about my distaste of the finishing process. I might throw in a review or two, or maybe even an interview if I get really punchy… but be forewarned, I may also occasionally delve into spinning, crocheting, embroidery, or my family, just because I do have other things going on that usually coincide or correlate to my knitting. Along that vein if anyone wants to know more about me personally, you can look me up on Myspace. My screenname is “Keri the Sheep.”

So, this is Knitting Passion. My outlook is that if you are truly passionate about something, you should throw your whole being into it. For me, passion is creating a vanity license plate that contains the word KNIT. Passion is googling “knitting blog” and realizing I have already bookmarked the top 10 results. Passion is creating an entire garment from one piece of string using nothing but 2 pointy sticks and the knowledge in your brain. Woohoo, my friends. Woo. Hoo.

About Knitting Passion

Is knitting really a passion? On THIS blog it is - for all who come here. Blog entries will be made up of patterns, photos of in-progress or completed work - off the wall discussions about whatever tickles the author's fancy (Survivor Knitting anyone?). This can be as much YOUR blog as it is the current author's. Questions will be entertained and answers sought diligently. Comments are always welcome - and information ALWAYS appreciated. Will there be stories and pictures of the stash of yarn or the duplicated knitting needles? Will there be more off the wall ideas for knitting? Will there be original patterns or freebies cited? Only the dark of night and the author's amount of caffeine or sleep can determine that.

Ready? ONE - TWO - GET SET - KNIT!
